TTM Tribe Walks from Darkness into Light
At TTM, we’re committed to using our business platform to make a positive impact in our community, our society and the world. On Saturday 6th May, members of the #TTMTribe put this into action and literally ‘walked the talk’ - by taking part in the Pieta ‘Darkness into Light’ Walk 2023 to support suicide prevention.
Making a Positive Impact - One Step at a Time
The team taking part in the Ennis chapter of the Walk comprised members of our Medical Division: Cliona O’Gara, Jane Boland, Jennifer Vance, Siju Paul, Nessa McNamara, Roisin McSweeney, Cian Reilly and Sara O’Shea. The group strode out, along with thousands of other Ennis walkers, at 4.15am - and the event was one of over 200 official Darkness into Light walks across 15 countries and spanning 5 continents. The annual charitable walk is described as marking ‘the most important sunrise of the year’ as it raises much-needed funds for Pieta, supported by Electric Ireland.
“Supporting mental health and well-being is so important to TTM. Being part of Darkness into Light is one way we can make an impact and help prevent suicide in a real, tangible way. We set ourselves a target of €1000 which, together with our Walk registration fee, can pay for 112 helpline hours, 29 crisis counselling sessions and 13 therapy sessions. We have exceeded this target and donations are still coming in.” - Cliona O’Gara, Business Manager
Statistics tell us that, in Ireland, one person a day dies by suicide. Pieta was established in 2006 to provide free, accessible one-to-one counselling to people suffering from suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide. Since the start of Darkness into Light, supporters have helped Pieta raise €36 million. The funds raised helps make sure Pieta’s essential counselling and advice services are free and available to anyone who needs them.
TTM CEO, Paula McDonnell explains the role and importance of social value projects at TTM:
“Getting involved with Darkness into Light is an example of how we can use our collective effort to make positive impact. For us as a business, success is about more than being commercially sound. We want to be instrumental in bringing about change - environmentally, socially and within our communities.”
To help boost our Darkness into Light efforts, we also held a Quiz at our Ennis HQ - raising €200 for the cause. We thank everyone involved!
