Why You Need Patient Moving and Handling Training

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 2007, all healthcare workers are required to complete training in the safe movement and handling of patients. The course teaches you or your staff members how to safely move and handle patients according to the Regulations. Participants learn the various safe and effective techniques that need to be used in a variety of settings as well as how to safely use patient handling equipment such as hoists.

Who Can Do the Training?

What Does the Course Cover and Cost?

The duration of the course is 4 hours and it covers all essential aspects of patient moving and handling. You will gain an understanding of current legislation and its application in a manual handling environment.

You will learn about the Musculoskeletal system and flexibility as well as Biomechanics and mechanism of injury. The course covers Ergonomics and Risk Assessment, and you will become competent in safely carrying out the following movements/techniques:

- Basic principles of lifting.
- Log roll.
- Sitting a patient up in bed.
- Turning a patient in bed using sliding sheets.
- Moving a patient up the bed using sliding sheets.
- Sitting a patient to edge of a bed.
- Standing patient.
- Transferring patient from bed to chair.
- The falling patient.
- Correct use of hoists and slings.

The cost of the course is €80 per person individual booking and our Corporate Rate for group bookings is €68 pp.

How are Participants Assessed and What Do They Receive?

You or your employees will be evaluated on patient moving and handling techniques and will need to demonstrate competency on all movements. A multiple-choice questionnaire must also be completed.

Each participant who successfully completes the course will be issued with a Patient Moving and Handling Certificate which is valid for 2 years.
